Fellow riders I am posting this for your knowledge, for your safety and perhaps your help in finding this person. For those of us who frequently ride in the western Hennepin and Wright counties this is for you.
The events of Friday, June 3rd led me to almost losing my life and the life of my wife. Thankfully and unbelievably grateful we came out up right and unhurt.
We frequently ride out in that area to have dinner out, on one day or another could be at a number of places from Corcoran , Buffalo, Watertown, Waconia, Rockford etc place’s like the River Inn Bar, Hill Top, Choo Choo, Mama”G”’s, 10-50 club, Lola’s on the lake and the Stanchion, all great places to stop. Any sound familiar? This night we ended up at one of our favorites the River inn bar in Hanover and had dinner. We left about 9:20 for a nice cool and comfortable ride home heading east on 19 and then following east along Cnty rd 117 at the intersection of 117 and Trail Haven road is where all the fun began. A minivan of the 1990’s vintage either a Ford Aero Star (alike picture below) or a Chevy Astro van (alike picture below) white with blue horizontal stripes, ran the stop sign(Rolled as apparently is a common practice for people that live in the area) at a two way stop at the intersection of 117 and Trail Haven Rd and almost broad sided us, I was able to swerve and accelerate enough to get almost past them, we did get hit on the right rear of the bike, just behind my wife’s leg demolishing the saddle bag, upon coming to a stop on the left hand shoulder, thank god still upright with pieces of my NEW 2011 HD FLTRU all over 117, I attempted to chase them down but I could smell burning rubber from the bag mount rubbing against my tire thought better of blowing the rear tire.
Now with all things said we are truly & gratefully blessed in the fact that we survived unscathed, we thank god for that, call it naive or the belief that people do the right things, but what really gets me is that a person could HIT us, let’s face it we were right in front of them, not like a near miss and leave us for dead in the ditch. Obviously someone with priors and or been drinking. If you see this vehicle or if you have any information please contact the Hennepin County Sheriff’s office at: 612-596-9867.
FOLKS WE NEED TO GET THIS PERSON OFF THE ROAD BEFORE THEY HARM SOMEONE.
They can say all they want about defensive driving, I have had yearly classes from my former employer, and it helps. One thing that can’t be controlled is THE INCONSIDERATE IDIOT WHO THINKS THEY OWN THE ROAD. I have been riding on two wheels since the 60′s on the street and dirt, and have seen all kinds of things. No matter how careful you are and how much you watch, all it takes is one stupid SOB to kill you or make a vegetable out of you for the rest of your life!
